Our name is inspired by Quinua, a small town in Ayacucho, in the Peruvian Andes, renowned for its artisans, rich traditions and distinctive handmade culture. Often referred to as “the city of the hands that talk,” Quinua embodies a deep connection between creativity, human expression and heritage. This spirit resonates deeply with KINUA and our appreciation for the beauty of the handmade, the uniqueness of each creation, and the knowledge and stories carried from one generation to the next.

THE STORY BEHIND KINUA
KINUA is a family-owned company founded in Lima in 2017 by Maira Valderrama and Vincent Rodrigues, a husband-and-wife team bringing together fashion, textile design, engineering and business.
Maira is a fashion and textile designer with 10 years of experience in luxury fashion, trained at Parsons School of Design in New York, Central Saint Martins in London, and the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris.
Vincent brings an engineering and business perspective, with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Porto and a master’s from École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in France, along with experience in finance, project management and the textile industry.
Together, they created a textile laboratory in Lima where exceptional fibers, color and craftsmanship come together. Kinua yarns are thoughtfully developed and naturally dyed by hand, combining technical expertise with creative exploration.
At the heart of Kinua is a shared curiosity: exploring the possibilities of fiber and color to create yarns with character, beauty and purpose.
